"There is divine beauty in learning, just as there is human beauty in tolerance. To learn means to accept the postulate that life did not begin at my birth. Others have been here before me, and I walk in their footsteps. The books I have read were composed by generations of fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, teachers and disciples. I am the sum total of their experiences, their quests. And so are you."

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

FINANCE/PERSONNEL

The library district received $10,852.40 because the City of Centralia dissolved a TIF District early. The library has not received all of the property tax it levied for. The library should receive another $20,000.00 from Marion County.

The library district may have to start paying Shawnee Library System for additional library services.

CONTRIBUTIONS/COMMUNITY RELATIONS

Jackson gave each board member a copy of the statistics from Snapshot Day.

President Loomis commented that the library has been receiving more media coverage in the local newspaper.

BUILDING & GROUNDS

Jackson is trying to locate plastic globes to replace the glass globes on the outside light fixtures at the main library. None of the local companies can get replacements for us. Jackson has been searching the Internet for a company to purchase them through. It has been hard to find replacements because of the age of the light fixtures.

LONG RANGE PLANNING

A new Long Range Plan needs to be developed before the Per-Capita Grant application this summer.

Jackson will talk to the city about the additional land needed for the building addition at the main library.

POLICY COMMITTEE

The library board needs to approve the changes to the policy which were discussed.

MOTION: Motion by Beasley to adopt the changes as presented in the vacations/holidays section of the employee handbook. Seconded by Paine and passed by roll call vote.
