World Book Night
World Book Night is an annual celebration designed to spread a love of reading and books. To be held in the U.S. as well as the U.K. and Ireland on April 23, 2012. It will see tens of thousands of people go out into their communities to spread the joy and love of reading by giving out free World Book Night paperbacks.
World Book Night (WBN) has a goal of getting 50,000 people to go out to places in their communities on or around the evening of Monday, April 23, 2012 and give a book to a stranger or to people they might know but believe aren’t frequent readers.
They are asking people to go to a coffee shop or hospital, church or community center, an after-work party or train home, shopping mall or local school, -- and give out 20 free paperbacks. Books cannot be handed out in libraries or bookstores.
These paperbacks will be specially-produced, not-for-resale World Book Night U.S. editions, and there will be 30 titles to choose from.
Centralia Regional Library District has applied to be a pick-up location and is advocating for local residents to apply to be volunteer givers. To be a giver one must go online to www.us.worldbooknight.org and apply. There are 30 books available and each person applying is asked for their first, second, and third choices; as well as where they plan to give the books out and to whom the books will be given. It takes about 20-30 minutes to fill out the form.
Books are then shipped to a local library or bookseller in early April. Volunteers will be notified as to when they may pick up their books.
Reading changes lives and WBN is an organization that is promoting that change by arranging for volunteers to give away free books! Please consider participating in this annual event to help spread the love of reading and books. Go online to www.us.worldbooknight.org before February 6th to apply.
