SUMMARY:Preserving History with Geoffrey Baer
DESCRIPTION:Tag along for a special conversation with Geoffrey Baer\, beloved Chicago historian\, storyteller\, and host of numerous PBS programs exploring the architecture\, history\, and hidden stories of the city and surrounding region. Known for bringing local history to life\, Baer has helped audiences connect more deeply with the places and communities around them. \nPerfect for librarians\, archivists\, educators\, history lovers\, and lifelong learners\, this event offers an engaging look at the people\, places\, and stories that define Chicago. Whether you’re passionate about local history or simply curious about the stories hidden in your own community\, you’ll leave with a renewed appreciation for the power of preserving and sharing the past. \nModerator\nShermann “Dilla” Thomas\, an Emmy Award-winning Chicago historian\, cultural worker\, and social media educator\, will join Geoffrey in conversation. Known for making Chicago history accessible and engaging\, Dilla has amassed more than 40 million views across social media and become a leading voice in telling the stories of the city he proudly calls home. \nRegister for this free online event today. \nZoom registration approvals for this event will close at 5:00 p.m. on the day of the event. Registrations received after this deadline will stay pending and will be processed after the live event\, ensuring that those who missed the cutoff will still receive the event recording. Attendance is limited to patrons of participating ILP member libraries; registrations from non-member library patrons will be declined. \nOnce you submit your registration\, please allow two business days for the host to approve it. You will then receive an automated confirmation email from Zoom with the link to join. An email reminder with the link to join will also be sent to registered attendees one week\, one day\, and one hour before the event. \nASL interpreting and closed captioning are now available for all ILP Season 6 events—no requests needed. Event recording will be accessible to registered attendees for a limited time\, typically up to 30 days\, in accordance with contractual agreements with the speaker.
